A is for Alligator

Bug is 30 months old.
I wanted to try a big coloring project
Craft activity

I have a roll of paper that I got from a teacher I used to work with. This is what I used for my fridge cover.

I thought it would be fun to do a big coloring project... not so much. I drew an life-size alligator. Ok not life size. Maybe the size of a caiman? I'm not sure how big those get though. I gave Bug her color pencils first... then my color pencils (bigger & more colors)... then markers (Note: while I worked on fixing a shirt that her head is too big to go through the opening). She was much more interested in checking out our printer, watching me sew & basically anything except color the alligator. (I did get the shirt finished, but she didn't get much coloring done.)

Review:
I think it didn't keep her attention because she always uses those art supplies. It is also a big area for her to color with rather small utensils. I think I will let this one go. We can always come back to it if she wants to color something. I was thinking about having her paint it, but I have some paint activities planned soon. I might have her glue some green paper to it (Thanks for the idea, Jen), but I'll need some time to prep that, so it probably won't happen today. If I ever get to it, I'll add it to this post later.

Source: Preschool Art "Life-size Animal." Available on Amazon. Basically, you build an animal with boxes & paper towel tubes, then paper mache it to keep it together. I don't think she is ready to sculpt yet. I think I would end up making it & then it would just be another thing filling up the house. I thought a life-size coloring project would be fun... or not.
